If you’re a Borderlands fan then we’ve got some great news for you, Gearbox will be developing the third instalment of the Borderlands series. The exciting news was confirmed at a PAX east panel last week.

Randy Pitchford, CEO and president of Gearbox said that “It’s no secret, obviously there’s going to be another Borderlands.” and whilst we’re all extremely excited about the notion of a Borderlands 3, Randy was quick to quip that he doesn’t even know “if we’re going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know,”. Whilst we think it’s safe to assume that he was joking about the name, his statement does suggest that the game is in the very early stages of development, if the development process has even started at all.

However, we did find out that Scott Kester will be the art director. You’ll probably recognise him if you’re a Battleborn fan, as he was the art director for that as-well.

The game is to be written by Gearbox Chief Creative Mikey Neumann. Neumann also provides the voice of mechanic, Scooter, in the game. He also hinted at the possible introduction of a new character, Scooter’s son who he has lovingly named “Scooper”.

However, other than the above, we’ve got very little information about what we can expect from the game, we’re not even sure what platforms it will be released on currently. Either way it’s great to know that development is underway in the Gearbox studio.

In other news, they did also note that you can now play as Battleborn characters in the next edition of Rock Band (4). Which looks a little something like this:
